Luchetti True Flat Sketchbooks are Patent Pending
FAQ
FAQ
What makes Luchetti different from other sketchbooks?
Luchetti was created to solve two of the biggest frustrations artists face with traditional sketchbooks: the center gutter, and paper that can't hold up to heavy media.
By combining our patent-pending True-Flat™ binding with 600gsm (300 lb) 100% cotton paper, Luchetti gives artists a seamless workspace and one of the thickest, most durable watercolor sketchbooks available today.
The FAQs below explain each feature in more detail.
Will it buckle with watercolor?
The 600gsm 100% cotton paper is designed to handle heavy watercolor with minimal buckling, even under heavy saturation.
Does it really lay completely flat?
Yes, our True-Flat™ binding allows every spread to open fully with no gutter or stitching. There is only a thin seam in the center where the paper folds, so you can work seamlessly across both pages.
Can I really paint on both sides?
Yes. Because each page is made from two bonded 300gsm cotton sheets, you can confidently create on both sides with no show-through or buckling, giving you twice the usable painting surface as traditional 300gsm sketchbooks.
Should I choose Cold Press or Hot Press?
🧊 Choose COLD PRESS if you...
- Primarily paint with watercolor or gouache.
- Enjoy a little texture beneath your brush.
- Like expressive washes and granulating colors.
- Prefer a forgiving surface with a traditional watercolor feel.
🔥 Choose HOT PRESS if you...
- Love smooth, crisp detail.
- Work with pen and ink.
- Enjoy graphite or colored pencils.
- Prefer clean edges and controlled washes.
- Want the smoothest possible surface.
Hot press gives you a sleek surface that lets every line shine.
Can't decide? Most artists eventually own both — Cold Press for expressive work, Hot Press for detail.

These are soooo good…,I love flooding the pages with heavy color washes…no curling no warping…gr888 if you made them larger I’d buy more 👍🏻
I purchased a cold press and hot press 8 inch sketchbook in black. I love the weight of the paper and the ability to paint across pages with no crease. Fantastic to paint on with my guache.
As someone who paints in watercolor 90% of my artmaking time, I found the hot press Luchetti to be exactly what I wanted. I opened it from its elegant box, took a moment to enjoy the beautiful binding and weight, then started trying out the pages immediately. The smooth paper makes watercolor do what watercolor does best. The flow and brightness of the pigments on the paper make it easy to create something beautiful right away. Thank you, Luchetti. This is my second sketchbook (I have the cold press sketchbook), and I will definitely be buying a few travel size Via’s when they are available.
I loooove my Luchetti flat sketchbook. I paint in it once a month, using both sides of the paper, and it is wonderful. I really feel accomplished after I finish a painting. I look forward to what is next for me, and Luchetti!
I finally painted in my Luchetti cold press sketchbook, and I was so glad I did. It was a joy! I worked very wet on wet and it worked perfectly! It worked exactly as it should, and it’s so hard to find in a sketchbook! The gutter was truly flat too! No buckeling at all. Loved it!
I really like my new sketchbook! I used it to play with new paints, water control and to get a feel for the paper. It absorbs lots of water so water control is important. It truly does lay flat so painting across papers was easy and relatively smooth.
Thank you, Carlo and Luchetti team, for a wonderful True Flat Hot Press sketchbook. I’ve already done my first drawing in it using a Blackwing 602 pencil, and I’m very satisfied with the paper quality and binding. And today, I just received the Cold Press version, which I’m anticipating opening this evening. Looking forward to seeing the 5.5” versions! - Ivor
These have quickly become my absolute favorite sketchbooks!!! The touch and feel of the paper is absolutely first class! And the ability to literally drowned any page in virtually any media, and have it not soak through is mind blowing. And for being such an elegant sketchbook, it is surprising how durable these are. Mine so far have held up to countlessly going in and out of bags shoved in the back of airplane seat pockets, and gone in and out of trunks and at worst, they look like a well-worn piece of luggage. You definitely have a customer for life.
Thank you for your attention to detail and your innovation. It does not go unnoticed.
They’re beautiful and great wonderful I would love it more. If there was paper that was toned tan because that’s my preference. Other than that they’re terrific such high-quality paper. It makes such a big difference. I paint in gouache and I love them.
The Luchetti sketchbook is such a unique experience – beautiful gutterless bookbinding, wonderful paper weight and quality. I am using this book for mixed media work which involves layers of watercolor and gouache, and charcoal/pencil/hard pastels on top. So there's a lot of work for the paper to handle. This sketchbook does it perfectly. When I received the first book I thought, oh this is special... I don't want to mess this one up! But as I work in it, I realize you can't mess it up. Anything I don't like will take a gouache fix, or lift off with no damage to the paper. Truly a wonderful, unique sketchbook!
Books are great in almost every way. Bought two of each book. Two CP books for watercolor, one HP for mixed media acrylic and one HP for collage..
My one disappointment is the cold press texture. It’s closer to a rough press than a cold press. Something between the CP and HP would be desirable to me.
Since we are limited in size and these books are forever bound (cannot remove pages), will loose sheets of the HP paper ever be available?
I would purchase that in a heartbeat. They would have to be larger than the format of the book, like 12 - 14 inch square. That way they could be framed and potentially sold.
I have only created one piece where I go across the gutter, and that is an acrylic abstract. I like how flat the book lays, the way watercolor lifts off the paper and most of all, it is such a joy when paper does not buckle when wet.
I hope I can work out my issue with the cold press as I have two of the books now. I will keep trying.
Thanks for asking for my opinion.

I received my beautiful sketchbook a few days ago. It is as the company promised. A beautiful sketchbook that lays perfectly flat with no gutters from 300 lb paper. I chose cold pressed paper and it is perfect for a sketchbook. Being able to use both sides of the paper and not have to worry about the color bleeding through is a relief. It came in a substantial box that you can keep the sketchbook in for years for preservation. I really love it. Luchetti, thanks for being attuned to what artists want.
I havent used it yet, but look forward to!! i can tell its high quality and look forward to trying it! I guess it has to remain in the book, so if i paint something that is worthy of framing, I guess Im out of luck! :)
I love my Luchetti! I’m new to watercolor so I’ve been trying out different papers, and Luchetti’s is definitely top notch. It holds a lot of water and paint dried beautifully on it. Art journaling is my new favorite hobby and having a high quality journal to paint in has really enhanced the experience!
I purchased my first Luchetti True Flat Sketchbook about two months ago… and have purchased three since! They are absolutely beautiful and so well made, I’ll never go back to another! They lay truly flat, and have given me the space and freedom for my creativity. The price point is so affordable that there is really no reason to try it. I can’t express my love enough and encourage all artists of all levels to try!
I am hugely appreciative of the product as I have ordered twice. As an artist, I would like to see single sheets production series as a product extension of Luchetti. Consideration of sizes can range from 11x14 or greater.
Carlos’ response time to discrepancies and engagement has been superior. I will continue to support through purchasing.
Thanks
